Carmen was the first DJ in the nation to produce a local music show on a commercial station, starting in 1986 with The Homegrown Artists Hour on 97.3 FM KKLR in Oklahoma City. This show featured over 1500 artists. "It was tough going at first, because this program was produced just before the advent of CD's. All the material I received was on vinyl and cassette tape. I remember running back and forth between the air studio and the production studio to lay down tracks on reel-to-reel during my air shift in order to get a show ready. I'm a good runner as a result."
"Moving to Colorado in the late '80s was the best move of my life. I was owned and operated by a Natural Foods Store and Vegetarian Restaurant for most of the '90s, but never lost my love and passion for broadcasting. Eventually, I drifted back towards my first love and started producing The Colorado Wave at a small station in the mountains. There was so much great music pouring in, I expanded the show to 3 hours and called it The Tidal Wave. After featuring about 3500 artists on these shows, I moved the show to a big station in Denver, slid under the radar, snared a late night shift and kicked some serious radio butt. That show was called The Mountain Homegrown Hour. A lot of great stuff has happened for Colorado musicians as a result of that show, with a big interest from commercial stations that would normally turn a deaf ear to all you great indies out there."
"This is a new and improved version of The Colorado Wave
and Indie Music Wave, which are heard all over the world . I love what I do, and I love your music. Keep it flowing.
Music just comes in Waves."

"I'm not a musician, and this means that I am higher up on the food chain than all of these artists.
The real reason I produce these shows is because I get a lot of free music, because I can,
but mainly because it generates
a lot of happiness."
